The Department of General Surgery at DCIMCH is one of the key departments among clinical specialities. It was started as a part of DCIMCH in 2012.

The Department of surgery boasts of a very strong faculty of eminent teachers. The number and variety of patients provide ample clinical material with adequate scope for hands-on-training. In addition to general surgery there are experienced and renowned teachers of different disciplines of surgery including ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, urology, etc.

After passing the 1st professional examination, students are introduced to the vast world of surgery through the department. Students are placed here for 12 weeks in 3rd year (Phase-II) and 8 weeks in 5th year (Phase-IV) and block postings.

Today, besides training undergraduates in General Surgery, the Department performs state-of-the-art speciality clinical work including oesophagogastric, pancreato-biliary, colorectal, breast, endocrine, head and neck minimal access surgeries.

Key Features:

  1. Runs at least 3 operation theatres exclusively for general surgical cases daily.
  2. Performs a good number of operations per year including esophago gastric, pancreato biliary, colorectal, breast , endocrine, head & neck and minimal access surgeries.
  3. Known to conduct regular CMEs, conferences.
  4. Harbours separate classrooms with projectors serving the needs of small group teaching, besides the regular lecture halls.
